Should Estabrook Dam on the Milwaukee River be removed? |  |
Milwaukee Riverkeeper Files Suit to Bring Down Estabrook Dam On Wednesday June 1st, Milwaukee Riverkeeper filed a lawsuit against Milwaukee County, the owner and operator of the Estabrook Dam, for failing to maintain the dam in good repair and condition. Milwaukee Riverkeeper is requesting that the court declare the structure a public nuisance, and order that it be removed.
The Estabrook Dam, located on the Milwaukee River just south of Hampton Avenue between Glendale and Milwaukee, has been in decline for decades and Milwaukee County has not addressed numerous outstanding maintenance and repair requirements pursuant to state dam safety regulations, as well as orders issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR).

Anglers can reel in prizes for introducing someone to fishing MADISON -- A trio of initiatives to get more people out fishing in Wisconsin will net some lucky anglers big prizes beyond the fun they have and the fish they catch, the state's fisheries director says.
•Wisconsin's new one day fishing license allows new people to give fishing a try, and if they like it, to apply the $8 cost of that license ($10 for nonresidents) to the price of an annual individual license.M
•DNR and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation's America's Pastimes promotion offers anglers fishing in Wisconsin a chance to register for a giveaway drawing for fishing gear when they pledge online to take someone new fishing in Wisconsin.Pledge to take someone new fishing and get entered in the drawing.
•Wisconsin is one of 20 states partnering on the “Wanna Go Fishing for Millions” promotion in which anglers who have registered online and catch specially tagged fish can win cash and fishing related prizes.
Fish have been tagged in Lake Winnebago and the Madison Chain of Lakes, among the state's biggest fisheries, and could be some lucky angler's ticket to $1 million.
